UGANDA ATTRACTIONS

Uganda has a variety of attraction in its national parks and cultural sites spread throughoput the country. Because of these tourist attractions, it has become one of the best safari destinations on the continent of Africa. You won't regret making a safari to Uganda because it has all you wish to see. The safari attractiuons in Uganda vary from wildlife including; primates & non primates, insects, abundant bird life and cultural sites.

 

1. BIRDING
In terms of size, Uganda is the richest country for birds in Africa, with over 1000 species recorded. Which is more than half of the continents bird population and over 10% of bird species recorded through out the world. Nearly 30 species are endemic to the Albertine Rift on Uganda s western boarder with Congo.


2. GAME SAFARIS
A nature walk through the forest on any of the trails, will give you an opportunity to see and learn about primates, bird species, Bwindi s colorful array of butterflies, trees, pre-historic tree ferns and other organisms. The forest itself is lush and green and there are streams running through it.

 

3. CULTURAL SITES
Kasubi Tombs
Kasubi tombs are the traditional royal tombs of the kings of buganda.The tombs are situated 5km away from the Kampala city centre. This interesting site is where the dead kings of Buganda kingdom are buried. Buganda kingdom is in the central and southern part of Uganda.

 

3. FISHING
Uganda is an ideal fishing destination. With one third of the country covered by water; there is great opportunity for sport fishing. Nile perch the largest fresh water game fish in the world, are the main catch in Lake Victoria and below

5. RWENZORI CLIMBING

6. GORILLA TRACKING
Uganda is best known world wide as the most convenient base for tracking the rare and endangered Mountain Gorilla, of which just 320 remain in Uganda! The location of the Gorillas habitat is divided between Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Virunga Volcano Region, both located in the south west regions of Uganda, approximately 600 km from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

 

     

 

 

 

 

Gorilla Permits for Uganda Safaris up, to USD 500

After a few months since the announcement by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, that the Gorilla trekking permits will be increased from USD 375 to USD 500, its now official what the increase has taken effect this July, 2007.gorilla safari uganda

Uganda - Parks

 

* General:
+ Big game in the Ugandan parks was sadly depleted in recent years but efforts to restock and conserve the game have been made and are continuing with good effect. Accommodation standards and the general infrastructure is improving rapidly during the continuing stability of the area.

Semliki National park

Found in the remote region of Western Uganda.Favourable destination for birders with over 40 unique bird species found nowhere in Uganda.Its also a site of Sempaya hot springs and geysers. Activities here include Chimpanzee tracking, night and day game drives  and boat trips on Lake Albert which will enable you to view the rare shoebill.


Kibale National park

Has  the largest biodiversity of primate species in the world. Some of which include ; the red colobus,velvets and Chimpanzees. The shady forests  provide botanists and butterfly enthusiasts with a rare treat. 335 species of  birds have been recorded .About 600 chimps inhabit the forest


Sesse Islands

84 beautiful and mainly uninhabited islands make up Sesse islands. Relax on the white sand beaches as you enjoy  a lake breeze watching countless African birds.A boat ride enables you to see hippos and crocodiles.


Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Sanctuary
Lowland rain forest. Access by road from Kabale. Basic accommodation available in Kabale. The reserve was established to protect the lowland mountain gorilla.


Kabalega Falls National Park

Kibale Forest Corridor Game Reserve
Forest and grassland. Access from Kampala by road. No accommodation in the reserve. Animals living in the park include buffalo, chimpanzee, Colobus monkey, elephant, kob, warthog, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.


Kidepo National Park
Savannah, woodland, mountain forest and riverine habitats. Access is by very difficult road from either Gulu or Moroto/Mbale or by light aircraft. Open all year but impractical in the rainy seasons April/May and July/August. Basic accommodation available. The big game in the park was sadly depleted in recent years but efforts to restock and conserve the game have been made and are continuing with good effect. Animals living in the park include aard-wolf, African wild cat, ant bear, antelope, baboon, jackal, buffalo, bush baby, bushbuck, caracal, cheetah, dik dik, duiker, eland, elephant, fox, gazelle, genet, giraffe, hartebeest, hyena, hyrax, klipspringer, kudu, leopard, lion, mongoose, oribi, patas monkey, porcupine, reedbuck, rhinoceros, vervet monkey, warthog, waterbuck, zebra and 249 species of birds.


Kigezi Mountain Gorilla Game Reserve
Forest and bamboo covered mountain slopes. Access from Mbarara by road. Basic accommodation available at Kisororo. Established to protect the endangered mountain gorilla. Other animals living in the reserve include buffalo, bushbuck, giant forest hog, leopard, monkey (including rare golden monkey) and a wide variety of birds.


Kigezi Game Reserve
Open grassland, savannah and woodland. Access from Mbarara by road. The park is a buffer to the Ruwenzori park to the north. No accommodation available. Animals living in the park include buffalo, bushbuck, elephant, giant forest hog, kob, topi, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.


Lake Mburo Game Reserve Park
Open plains, forest and grasslands. Access from Mbarara by road. No accommodation available. Animals living in the park include antelope, buffalo, eland, impala, klipspringer, leopard, lion, oribi, topi, warthog, waterbuck, zebra.


Murchison Falls National Park also called the Kabalega Falls National Park
Grassy plains, woodland and riverine habitats. Access by road from Kampala. Open all year round. Reasonable accommodation available. The big game in the park was sadly depleted in recent years but efforts to restock and conserve the game have been made and are continuing with good effect. Animals living in the park include aard-wolf, African wild cat, ant bear, antelope, baboon, badger, buffalo, bush pig, bushbuck, caracal, cheetah, chimpanzee, civet, Colobus monkey, dik dik, duiker, eland, elephant, fox, gazelle, genet, giraffe, ground pangolin, hartebeest, hippopotamus, hunting dog, hyena, hyrax, impala, jackal, klipspringer, kob, kudu, leopard, lion, mongoose, oribi, otter, patas monkey, porcupine, red tailed monkey, reedbuck, rhinoceros, serval, vervet monkey, warthog, waterbuck, zebra, zorilla and 359 species of birds.


Queen Elizabeth National Park also called the Ruwenzori National Park
Grassy plains, tropical forest, swamp, lake shore, wooded volcanic slopes and riverine habitats. Access by road from Mbarara or light aircraft usually from Entebbe. Open all year round. Comfortable accommodation available. The big game in the park was sadly depleted in recent years but efforts to restock and conserve the game have been made and are continuing with good effect. Animals living in the park include African wild cat, ant bear, buffalo, bush pig, bushbuck, duiker, elephant, giant forest hog, hippopotamus, hyena, hyrax, kob, leopard, lion, porcupine, potto, reedbuck, serval, topi, warthog, waterbuck, and 383 species of birds.
